PPG has received approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for its new-design glass-faced acrylic windshields for HAWKER® 800 series business jets, including the Hawker 750, 800, 800XP, 800 (U-125A), 850XP, 900XP and 1000 aircraft. With approval under an EASA Supplemental Type Certificate, PPG has begun selling the windshields directly to aircraft owners and operators in Europe.
According to Steve Kight, PPG market director, general aviation transparencies, PPG is now able to offer European operators the benefits of its glass-faced acrylic windshields over the previous all-acrylic design.
“Since PPG received Parts Manufacturer Approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for this windshield, demand for it by U.S. operators of these aircraft has grown steadily,” Kight said. “European operators can feel confident in this product by knowing that it has EASA approval.”
Compared with the previous all-acrylic windshields, the new-design windshields offer superior scratch, abrasion and chemical resistance. They also have an improved, more reliable anti-ice heating system, higher visible light transmittance and improved precipitation-static drain. In addition, PPG SURFACE SEAL hydrophobic coating helps shed water for better pilot visibility during wet conditions without the need for wipers.
PPG is displaying a Hawker 800 windshield at its exhibit booth N5109 at the National Business Aviation Association Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE). The event is being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center Oct. 10-12.
PPG’s global aerospace business offers coatings, sealants, transparencies, packaging and application systems, and transparent armor, as well as chemical management and other services. For more information, visit www.ppgaerospace.com.
