BASF has lifted the force majeure on 1,4-Butanediol (BDO) and its derivatives in North America effective immediately.
The force majeure was the result of two independent events during the week of Jan. 14, 2018, which impacted production at the company’s Geismar, La. manufacturing facility. On Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, a natural gas fire occurred near BASF’s Geismar facility and disrupted the site’s natural gas supply, followed by record low temperatures for several consecutive days, along with rain, sleet and snowin the southern Louisiana area. BASF’s BDO and derivative products will remain on sales control until inventories fully return to acceptable levels.
BDO and its derivatives are used for producing engineering plastics, polyurethanes, solvents and elastic spandex fibers.
