During the opening keynote address at Greenbuild 2022, USGBC president and CEO Peter Templeton shared a state of the industry assessment, providing a snapshot of USGBC’s recent milestones and the future of LEED and green buildings. USGBC has achieved many milestones over the last year, including:
USGBC also made significant announcements during the Greenbuild event, including updates to LEED v4 energy requirements and a partnership with the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) that will focus on streamlining the process for achieving dual WELL and LEED certifications through a two-way crosswalk and a coordinated third-party review overseen by GBCI.
At Greenbuild, USGBC hosted a number of education sessions and workshops on green building topics such as ESG, decarbonization, sustainable building materials and the Future of LEED. The Greenbuild Host Committee also selected California Interfaith Power and Light  as the winner of the 2022 Greenbuild Legacy Project Award. The award included $35,000 plus an additional $35,000 of in-kind support that will be used to create a neighborhood climate resilience hub at Faith Baptist Church in East Oakland.
Greenbuild is an annual conference that convenes green building professionals to learn and find solutions to improve resilience, sustainability and quality of life in our buildings, cities and communities. Next year's Greenbuild will be held Sept. 26–29 at the LEED-certified Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
- Surpassing 100,000 LEED-certified projects around the world, including more than 800 million square feet of newly certified space in just the past year
- An increase of 25% in LEED project registrations over the past year
- Recertification of more than 300 million square feet of project space, along with 1.4 billion square feet of existing buildings that have started using Arc to track performance
- 750 policies incentivizing LEED at the federal, state, local and regional levels, with many more promoting green building strategies like renewable energy, green roofs and water conservation
