Wayne E. Jones Jr. was elected chair of the board of directors of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The one-year term begins on Jan. 1, 2024.
As chair of the Society’s 16-member chief governing body, Jones will preside over board and executive committee meetings, appoint chairs and members of board committees and task forces, oversee the performance of the chief executive officer, and support strategic planning and evaluation of progress toward those goals, among other duties.
Jones is provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Hampshire. He earned a B.S. from St. Michael’s College in 1987 and a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1991. He has been a member of ACS since 1989.
