The Children’s Museum Houston, in partnership with BASF, has unveiled the all-new BASF Power Science Lab, a dynamic, hands-on learning space designed to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and problem solvers. The ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed local school children, who had the opportunity to become chemists for the day, conducting their own slime experiments.
The BASF Power Science Lab is a hands-on laboratory equipped with real-world tools and equipment to support interactive experiments and engaging demonstrations. Here, young scientists can explore the wonders of chemistry, biology, anatomy, physiology and more, to understand how these topics play important roles in their everyday life.
The lab encourages curiosity and critical thinking as students follow the scientific process during engaging demonstrations. Kids can mix chemicals, test reactions, and discover the power of scientific inquiry in a fun and safe environment, guided by museum educators. Whether they’re experimenting with polymers, exploring acids and bases, or learning about different body systems, the BASF Power Science Lab makes science come alive through immersive Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) based learning experiences.
During the ribbon cutting event, speakers emphasized the importance of curiosity and experimental learning in supporting a lifelong STEAM interest.
“We hope the BASF Power Science Lab brings curiosity and hands-on learning together, sparking a lifetime of interest in science,” said Jenna Marston, BASF Communications Manager at the Freeport, Texas site. “Because at BASF, we believe science is about asking questions, seeking answers, and imagining new possibilities.”
“The BASF Power Science Lab is where young scientists can roll up their sleeves, get hands-on, and unleash their inner chemists,” said Keith Ostfeld, Vice President of Exhibit and Program Innovation at Children’s Museum Houston. “The best way to learn science is to do science. The lab’s interactive experiments fuels curiosity, lays the foundation for wanting to do more science, and makes learning an unforgettable adventure!”
The BASF Power Science Lab is part of BASF’s ongoing commitment to STEAM education, helping young minds explore the possibilities of science in an engaging way. Throughout the year, the museum will continue offering interactive programming, live demonstrations, and special events in the lab.
