The Great Lakes Coatings Conference (GLCC) will make its inaugural debut June 10-12 at the University of Michigan Campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Great Lakes Coatings Conference is a new biennial event based in the Midwest and led by Coatings Associations in the region.
“We’ve got a lot of great associations in the Great Lakes area,” said Mitch Upton, Univar Solutions - Sales Manager and Vice President of GLCC. “The Eastern and Western Coatings Associations have their own regional shows. Our associations, manufacturers, distributors and customers are right here in the area. That’s why we decided to hold a show here.”
The Great Lakes coating show will be held in conjunction with a number of Coatings Societies. “There are four main associations: the Cleveland Coatings Society, Detroit Society for Coatings Technology, Chicago Society for Coatings Technology and the Chicago Paint and Coatings Association,” said Amanda Andrews, Wanhua Chemical (America) - Business Director, CASE and President of GLCC. We also wanted to keep some of the smaller societies active by supporting them; like Wisconsin Paint and Coatings Association and Pittsburgh Society for Coatings Technology.
Then incorporate the marketing support from other regional associations like Canadian Paint and Coatings Association, and Northwestern Society for Coatings Technology.”
The GLCC will include an exhibitor area and multiple educational tracks. In addition, there will be a golf outing, evening reception at the University of Michigan Football Stadium, fun night go karting and adult activities at BIG! and tour of EMU Coating & UofM Battery Lab and potentially a Ford Rouge Factory Tour.
”The Great Lakes Coatings Show is going to be fun, economical and educational,” Andrews noted. “We are offering free short courses for those who pay for full conference registration. Along with technical short courses for product development roles; we will be focusing on offering courses that teach the basics of our market for folks in roles like procurement, or supply chain, marketing and sales that want to learn about coatings/adhesives terms but don’t need all the technical data. Those folks can attend just the courses without attending the whole conference if they would like for a small fee.”
“We have been impressed with the traction we are getting,” Upton noted. “We need to move fast because the interest level is really high.”
GLCC is seeking abstract submissions from industry, government, academia and consultants for educational and technical presentations. These presentations should focus on new product developments, innovative technologies and advancements in product or process enhancements that promote development in architectural, industrial and specialty coatings. The organizers noted that priority may be given to abstracts focused on sustainability.
The goal of the GLCC is to highlight the abundance of paint and coatings and allied industries that are in the Midwest, share innovations and give back to the coatings industry through the non-for-profit Coatings Associations that are dedicating their time and resources to this event. Event organizers noted that 100% of the profits will be given back to the coatings industry through its Associations and Societies.
