Fire Barrier (FB) latex intumescent paint made by Contego International has passed the ASTM E-84 test
covering flame spread and smoke developed values with a class A rating on polyurethane foam, according
to the Fairfield, NJ-based company. The coating, which
can be applied using a standard sprayer, roller, mitt or brush,
expands when exposed to high temperatures or direct flame
forming a char barrier that lifts off the foam substrate cutting
off the fire’s fuel source.
The product (right) has caught the eye of major paint
companies. Sources said several top paint companies,
such as ICI, Sherwin-Williams and Valspar, have
“expressed an interest in either private labeling or cobranding”
opportunities.
