l Cathelco Ltd. has acquired the cathodic protection business of Jotun A/S. According to Cathelco, the purchase has made it the world’s largest combined manufacturer of electrolytic anti-fouling (EAF) systems for seawater pipework and hull corrosion protection equipment for the shipping industry. The accord called for Cathelco to acquire the assets of Jotun’s ICCP and pipework anti-fouling activities and for Jotun to gain a 10% share of Cathelco.
Cathelco has been a leader in pipework anti-fouling, with some 8,000 installations on ships of all sizes over a period of more than 40 years. The firm has also developed an impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system which has been fitted on some 4,000 vessels. With the pipework anti-fouling and ICCP activities merged, Cathelco and Jotun will combine two worldwide sales networks. “This is very important for customers because representation is close to hand for owners, shipyards and repair facilities, wherever they are in the world. It also provides the ability to respond quickly to tenders and technical inquiries,” said Justin Salisbury, managing director of Cathelco Ltd.
