two-layer automotive
coat using an
aqueous base coat
Patent No. U.S. 6,548,119 B1
E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company has been granted a patent for a process for producing a two-layer coat on a motor vehicle body in an automatic motor vehicle series lacquering unit. The process is comprised of applying an aqueous base lacquer coating composition to the motor vehicle body, wherein the aqueous base lacquer coating composition comprises one or more organic solvents and has a high solid value of 40%-70%; exposing the aqueous base lacquer coating to a circulating air at 25-45° C; having an air throughput of 0.10 to 0.70 m/s for 30-180 seconds; applying a transparent finishing lacquer layer of a clear lacquer coating composition to the aqueous base lacquer layer; and baking the aqueous base lacquer and the transparent finishing lacquer layer, wherein the resultant coating is boiler-free.
