Evonik is one of the world's leading specialty chemicals companies and employs more than 33,500 people worldwide. With business activities across more than 100 countries, Evonik produces chemicals for a variety of applications, including adhesives, cleaning products, construction materials and more.
Located at the Charleston International Manufacturing Center at 1588 Bushy Park Road in Goose Creek, S.C., Evonik is building a precipitated silica plant to supply the tire industry. The industry requires high-quality precipitated silica to produce fuel-efficient tires with wet grip properties, which can save up to eight percent in fuel consumption compared to conventional car tires.
Construction on the new facility is expected to begin this month with completion expected by mid-2018. For more information on joining the Evonik team, visit the company's career page online. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project. A $500,000 grant was also awarded to Berkeley County to assist with the costs of real property improvements.
"We are excited to welcome Evonik Corporation to the South Carolina family and to congratulate its leadership on the decision to invest in our people and our state. This $120 million investment, and the 50 new jobs it means for Berkeley County, is a real reason to celebrate, and we look forward to seeing the impact that this fantastic company will have in the Lowcountry," said Gov. Nikki Haley.
