PPG recently completed a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project in Renous, New Brunswick, that helped revitalize the Tom Donovan Arena.
The two-day project brought together nearly 25 volunteers from PPG’s architectural coatings business and Crack N Teal, a PPG customer.
The volunteers painted the indoor hockey arena’s locker rooms, hallways, ceiling beams and concession areas, with PPG providing approximately 75 gallons (284 liters) of DULUX Paints products by PPG to assist with the project.
The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and paint products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in New Brunswick, where PPG has approximately 12 company-owned Dulux Paints stores.
The people of Renous, N.B., winners of the Kraft Hockeyville 2019 competition from across Canada as the country’s most passionate hockey community, will celebrate the grand prize of a preseason game between the Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens on Sept. 18.
The Panthers and Canadiens will face off in nearby Bathurst, N.B., at K.C. Irving Regional Centre. The $250,000 grand prize for winning Kraft Hockeyville 2019 will go towards the Tom Donovan Arena in Renous, the heart of their community.
Built more than 30 years ago, the arena honors former resident and schoolteacher Tom Donovan, an avid hockey fan and advocate for the arena that now bears his name.
In 2018, the rural community lost Thomas Dunn, an aspiring hockey player who died in a car accident. The Tom Donovan Arena became a supportive gathering place for members of the community. Renous, which has less than 1,000 residents, submitted their story to the Kraft Hockeyville competition in honor of Dunn.
“We are extremely proud to give back to this resilient, local community,” said Angela Chidley, PPG zone manager, architectural coatings, Canada. “The Tom Donovan Arena is truly interwoven into the town’s history, and PPG is honored to help revitalize the arena back to its former glory for future generations.”
