Instructor – Ronald Obie

Obie is the founder and owner of the Wood Coatings Research Group, an Independent R&D and Think Tank organization. Ronald has over 30 years of research, development, consulting, training, and problem-solving experience in the wood coatings and coatings industry. Obie has developed highly successful new coating technology platforms and technologies for the marketplace. He is extremely knowledgeable of the science, technology, and market characteristics of the wood coating industry. He has been a multiple short course Technology Conference instructor for FSCT/ACA in the area of wood coatings, teaching such courses as “Formulating for Factory Applied Wood Finishes” and “Crosslinking of Aqueous Wood Coatings.” Further, Obie has taught as an adjunct instructor in the area of polymer chemistry. He has also spoken at international and local societies, symposia and conferences in the area of coatings science and technology, and nanotechnology.

Field-applied coatings for steel pipelines create a complex challenge for the steel pipe industry. From in-situ coating procedures and machinery to a trained and skilled workforce, coaters must also consider that the materials need to offer performance and longevity through extreme conditions while providing anti-corrosion properties, all the time conforming to local, national and global standards. With the oil price recovering much of the ground lost towards the end of 2018, new exploration and production of O&G, the increase in popularity of shale and LNG and the requirement for improved pipe infrastructure, this event provides delegates the chance to participate in two days of technical and commercial conference presentations with a multitude of networking opportunities.

Rheology Fundamentals & Applications for Synthetic Latexes, Associated Coating Formulations Workshop

October 11 - 13, 2019

OBJECTIVES: Provide industrial scientists and engineers with an intensive, interactive workshop on the rheological characteristics of synthetic latexes as they are produced via the emulsion polymerization process. The addition of such latexes to coating formulations with pigments, fillers and rheological modifiers provides the participant an opportunity to grasp the fundamental rheological principles of these highly dispersed, fluid systems.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: This workshop is directed towards those in industry who use laboratory, pilot and/or commercial scale reactors to make latex for use in coating formulations, pressure sensitive adhesives, caulks and sealants. In equal measure it is also directed towards those who purchase latex for use in their own formulated dispersions for similar applications.

STRUCTURE OF THE WORKSHOP: This 3-day workshop will be conducted in a highly interactive manner with participants being engaged in discussions, demonstrations, problem solving and case studies.
