BASF Coatings and Shanghai Eastern Star Automobile Trading Co., Ltd., the sales and after-sales service partner of Mercedes-Benz China Ltd. for automotive refinish in eastern China, will expand their partnership. The two organizations have signed an exclusive five-year supply contract in which all Mercedes-Benz after-sales service stations in Eastern Star’s eastern China distribution-network will exclusively use Glasurit automotive refinishes.
“For BASF Coatings, the exclusive contract with Eastern Star is an important step to support Mercedes-Benz China and to expand our role as a strong partner for the automotive industry in the growth regions,” said Hans-Juergen Becker, general manager of BASF Coatings International Trade (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
In other news, BASF Coatings AG has been named the new system supplier for Volkswagen’s factory in Poznan, Poland. The new T5 model of the Volkswagen commercial vehicle line is being built at the Poznan factory. The new city delivery vehicle will roll off the Poznan assembly line this year.
Jörg Krames, head of Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Transport, Bentley account management within the automotive OEM coatings business unit of BASF Coatings, is pleased with the negotiations. “Our competent on-site presence since 1994 ultimately led to the decision in our favor. However, we also obtained this status thanks to our being a qualified business partner outside of the European Union,” he said.
Volkswagen took over the former Tarpan factory in Poland in 1993.
After Slovakia, Poland is the second non-EU country in Europe where billing with Volkswagen is based on the cost per unit principle, which means that the paint supplier is paid per car body that meets finish standards.
