Customer Service Representative Lisa Guy of the PPG industrial coatings plant in Mount Vernon, Illinois, sponsored a $1,000 PPG Foundation grant to support the purchase of dissection projects, rocketry equipment and science-fair materials for sixth- and seventh-grade students at New Hope School in Fairfield, Illinois. Teacher Scott Webb requested funding to support hands-on science learning at his school, and Guy applied for the grant through a program that encourages PPG employees to connect with their communities by supporting education initiatives.
More than 60 students are benefiting from the funding. Pictured above, Hunter Brown and Gabe Todd (left) prepare to dissect a frog, while Cale Simpson and Luke Duckworth (right) focus on another frog.
“Science is all about exploring and experimenting,” Guy said. “I am happy to be able to support teachers like Mr. Webb, who encourage students to really engage with what they are learning, through the PPG Foundation’s Innovative Classroom Grants program. I hope the students appreciate their opportunities to learn from these fun projects.”
