PPG Comex and its more than 750 dealers of COMEX paints and coatings recently collaborated in Acapulco, Mexico, to achieve the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest mosaic created with cans of paint in the world. The mosaic included 4,900 cans of Comex paint, which will be donated to help beautify spaces in needy areas of Mexico.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Official Adjudicator Sarah Casson presented a certificate to PPG Comex to declare the mosaic as the largest in the world.
"It gives us great pride to achieve this distinction, with this impressive mural of color that reflects the commitment of each of the dealers and collaborators integrated with the Comex brand,” said Gilberto Alcaráz, director of the social impact program "Comex por un México Bien Hecho" (“Comex for a Well Done Mexico”). “Through our more than 4,200 stores, we strive to protect and beautify the lives of people, and we continue to strengthen our position as one of the largest retail chains in Mexico and the first in the paints category."
Alcaráz explained that the paint that gave color to the world’s largest paint-can mosaic will be donated to beautify spaces as proposed by the owner-dealers of Comex stores, to improve schools, hospitals and other sites in the communities where their stores operate.
During the annual business session for the Comex brand, which took place in Acapulco, Guerrero, the mosaic was created using 4,900 cans of Vinimex TOTAL paint in eight colors, with an area of about 538 square feet (50 square meters). Plastic and visual artist Triana Parera created the design concept, along with graphic designer and illustrator Jimena Montemayor, who is known in Mexico as JIMO.
PPG Comex is a leader in Mexico and Central America in the manufacture, distribution and commercialization of paints and coatings, with more than 50 percent of the architectural market share. The Comex brand names more than 4,000 stores in Mexico and has nearly 65 years of providing excellent customer service. Its products facilitate the renovation of more 160,000 homes every day, and the completion of more than 40 million projects annually.
