BASF’s Master Builders Solutions will be presenting solutions in the concrete admixtures segment – including MasterEase, MasterFiber, Master X-Seed, and MasterFinish – at this year’s BetonTage exhibition (Feb. 19-21 in Neu-Ulm).
Master X-Seed reduces costs and emissions
Master X-Seed, the hardening accelerator from Master Builders Solutions, is another product that delivers numerous benefits to construction sites and precast-concrete plants, reducing costs and CO2 emissions and ensuring significant time benefits. With the liquid hardening accelerator, concrete hardens up to 10 times faster than without treatment – even at wintry temperatures. Based on a patented accelerator technology, Master X-Seed supports concrete hardening by facilitating the natural hydration process of the cement. The admixture does not have any adverse impact on final strength or durability of the concrete. In contrast to other hardening accelerators, Master X-Seed has no negative effect on concrete rheology, even when used in high-flowability, extended-workability concrete mixes.
Another innovation presented at BetonTage is MasterFiber – synthetic fibers that can be used instead of steel as an alternative reinforcement in concrete. Facilitating cost reductions of up to 40 percent, use of the fibers also broadens the scope for possible designs. MasterFiber makes concrete elements more resistant to environmental impact and improves the durability of the building.
“Concrete admixtures can make a substantial contribution toward meeting the challenges currently faced by the construction sector: From a commitment to sustainable construction to tighter time schedules to increasing cost pressure,” said Herwig Heegewaldt, who is responsible for the concrete admixtures business of Master Builders Solutions in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. “Using the right concrete admixtures helps concrete producers as well as building owners to reduce expenses and emissions, save time, preserve their machinery and reduce the manpower required at construction sites.”
“MasterFinish CLN 689 leaves a permanent micro-layer on the surface. On steel formwork, this layer provides high-level rust protection while simultaneously forming an excellent base for the subsequent application of the release agent,” added Cengizhan Zor, application engineer for form release agents in Germany, Austria and Switzerland at BASF. "Combined with release-agent emulsions from Master Builders Solutions, MasterFinish provides major advantages in terms of environmental protection and applicator safety: Based on renewable raw materials, the cleaner is exempt from labeling and virtually odorless. In addition to formwork cleaners, the MasterFinish range also comprises novel release agents and products for machine care and protection. At precast-concrete plants, MasterFinish facilitates easy formwork removal and prevents rust formation on formwork surfaces. Ready-mixed concrete manufacturers benefit from MasterFinish products for the cleaning, care and preservation of concrete vehicles, job site machinery and mixing equipment."

Just recently, Master X-Seed technology was successfully applied for the construction of the Marienturm, an office tower under construction in Frankfurt/Main. It has an altitude of 155 meters and is due to be finished in the first quarter of 2019. Master X-Seed played a part in ensuring adherence to the strict time schedule: Six days for each of the large structure’s 38 floors.
MasterEase for optimized rheology and lower viscosity
Another product employed in the construction of the Marienturm tower was MasterEase. It helped to achieve the pumping height of about 155 meters. Showcased at the BetonTage exhibition, the new MasterEase product range optimizes concrete rheology through a reduction in viscosity by up to 30 percent.
