The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced that Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO of USGBC, and public opinion researcher David Bluestone of ClearPath Strategies, will the deliver the keynote at the annual Rocky Mountain Green conference.
“Events like Rocky Mountain Green are an opportunity for the green building industry to come together and discuss solutions to the biggest problems affecting our communities,” said Ramanujam. “David and I are looking forward to standing with friends and colleagues in the Rockies to discuss creating a universal living standard for all. A universal living means leaving no one behind—and the conversations we have in Colorado will help make that goal a reality.”
As president and CEO of USGBC and Green Business Certification, Inc. (GBCI), Ramanujam leads a community that is growing every day. Ramanujam couples a strong background in technology and innovation with his goal of building healthier communities and making sustainable living a reality for every person on the planet. Ramanujam previously served as both the chief operations officer and chief information officer of USGBC before taking over as CEO in 2017.
USGBC, together with ClearPath Strategies, has conducted independent nationwide research on people’s views of the environment. By and large, respondents from all walks of life are deeply concerned about the long-term health of our environment but feel it is too daunting of a task to address. In his presentation, Bluestone will report out some of the findings regarding how the public feels about sustainability, green buildings and the environment—and how the green building community can better scale its core mission and transformational efforts.
“This research is vital in not only reaching as many people as possible, but will also prove critical in affecting real, positive change,” said Bluestone. “Throughout 2019, USGBC and the Living Standard campaign will continue this research in communities across the U.S. and exploring in detail how sustainability is part of the way in which we lead our lives.”
Rocky Mountain Green offers engaging educational sessions that inspire attendees into action while focusing on USGBC’s mission to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves quality of life. This year's education program offers sessions around four themes: The Business Case for LEED; The Future of Performance; Community Design; and Rating System Crosswalks.
The conference will take place at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in downtown Denver from April 10-12, 2019, and is the largest conference dedicated to green buildings in the mountain region.
USGBC’s Rocky Mountain Green brings together hundreds of building professionals, sustainability leaders and change-makers for discussions about today’s most pressing sustainability and green building issues.

Focused on the belief that storytelling can lead to a more sustainable world, the campaign aims to highlight stories—big and small—that capture how USGBC, LEED and other sustainability programs are raising the quality of life for people around the world. Ramanujam and Bluestone’s remarks will discuss how the green building industry can identify and promote stories about positive change and access to green buildings on a larger scale.
