Robson F. Storey, Bennett Distinguished Professor of Polymer Science and Engineering, Emeritus and chairman of The Waterborne Symposium, has been named the 2022 Waterborne Symposium plenary speaker.
Storey will give his talk on “Alternative Polyurethane Polymers Cured via Azide-Alkyne Cycloaddition.”
The T.W. Bennett Endowment was established at The University of Southern Mississippi by Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Bennett, Sr. in honor of their son and his love for the sciences. Thomas Waring Bennett, Jr. was declared missing in action on Dec. 22, 1972, while serving in the United States Air Force.
The endowment established the Bennett Distinguished Professorship, which is awarded every two years to an exceptional professor in the sciences. Earnings from the endowment are used to support research activities of the Bennett Professor and to sponsor the biennial T.W. Bennett Symposium.
Storey is professor emeritus within the School of Polymer Science and Engineering at The University of Southern Mississippi, where he has held a faculty appointment since 1983. He has served as chairman or co-chairman of The Annual International Waterborne, High-Solids, and Powder Coatings Symposium since 1985.
He obtained B.S. degrees in Polymer Science and Mathematics in 1978 from The University of Southern Mississippi, and a Ph.D. in Polymer Science in 1983 from the University of Akron. He was awarded the Innovation Award for Academic Partnership in 2017 and the Basic Research Award in 2013 from the University Research Council. He received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Department of Polymer Science, The University of Akron, in 2006.
Storey has published approximately 180 referred journal articles and is an inventor on 35 issued US patents. His research interests include cationic and ring-opening polymerizations, polyisobutylene-based polymers, surface coatings and reactive oligomers, biomedical/biodegradable polymers, block and graft copolymers, star- branched polymers, and ionomers.
The talk will be presented on Feb. 23, 2022 at the conference, which will be held in New Orleans, LA.
