PPG announced that it is serving as flagship sponsor of “The Architects Experience” at the METALCON trade show and conference, taking place Oct. 18-20, 2023 in Las Vegas. The Architects Experience offers special programming for architects, specifiers and engineers on the application of metal in design and construction.
PPG will showcase its high-performance line of coil, extrusion and field-applied metal coatings for residential, commercial and monumental architectural applications. These include PPG DURANAR PVDF coating, PPG DURASTAR SMP coating, PPG DURAFORM BP polyester coil coatings, PPG CORAFLON PLATINUM FEVE powder and PPG Coraflon ADS field-applied coatings.
The company will also feature advanced infrared (IR) reflective pigments that help to cool buildings with less energy, and pearlescent pigments that color shift with changing angles and light for dynamic exterior designs. These technologies are used in PPG Duranar ULTRA-COOL, PPG Durastar ULTRA-COOL and PPG DURANAR VARI-COOL coating formulations.
“As a pioneer in metal coatings with solutions in every major coating technology, PPG was an ideal fit to sponsor the ‘show within a show’ to discuss how protective coatings not only help to create striking exteriors, but overcome architectural, structural and environmental challenges,” said Hendekea Azene, PPG general manager, Americas, Industrial Coatings.
“With PPG’s 55-year legacy in architectural coatings, we appreciate the opportunity to share best practices and new innovative technologies that will elevate the performance and aeshetics of architectural metal,” Azene said. “Las Vegas provides the perfect setting because of our work on the construction of Allegiant Stadium, a definite showstopper for the city.”
PPG representatives will be featured in two educational sessions at METALCON, both of which are open to all attendees.
• Gary Edgar, PPG architectural specifications manager, Industrial Coatings and Christopher Sotiropulos, vice president of stadium operations, Las Vegas Raiders, will lead “Designing for Las Vegas: A Full House of Finishes for Allegiant Stadium to Enhance, Protect & Cool,” Oct. 18 at 8:30 a.m. This session will explore the partnership between the Raiders and PPG to protect the 10-level domed facility with paints, coatings and specialty materials from PPG. This breadth of solutions and expertise met the need for both high-end aesthetics and durable protection across the building’s interior, exterior and structural steel surfaces.
• Craig Smith, PPG global platform director, coil and extrusion coatings, Michael Stucky, PPG customer sustainability business partner, Global Industrial Coatings and Aerospace, and Karl Swanson, president, PCT Ebeam and Integration, LLC, are partnering to lead the “Improve Sustainability of Pre-Painted Metal with Radiation Cured Coatings” in the Sustainability Learning Center, Oct. 18 at 11:15 a.m. The panel, moderated by Olivier Magnin, PPG’s coil coatings global business manager, Industrial Coatings, will provide an overview of radiation-curable (rad-cure) coatings and why the technology is gaining attention in the pre-painted metal industry.
"Ultra-violet and electron beam (EB)-cured coatings are widely used for substrates including vinyl, composites and wood. Investments in research and development, including work done at PPG, is making radiation curing the next generation offering for a broader range of applications and industries,” said Magnin. “As a global leader in radiation cured technologies, PPG is quickly expanding its EB portfolio for coil steel and aluminum coatings, which is expected to transform the industry and raise the bar for sustainable, energy-efficient coating solutions.”
Established in 1991, METALCON is the largest international event in the metal construction industry. It is the only annual tradeshow and conference devoted entirely to the application of metal in industrial, institutional, light commercial and residential projects.
