For coatings manufacturers, there is a lot of work that goes into supplying the paint for race cars. There is also tremendous effort when it comes to formulating and manufacturing paint for automotive refinish operations.
For PPG and Tasca Racing, their relationship is both on and off the track. In addition to sponsoring the PPG Nitro Funny Car in three of the National Hot Rod Association's (NHRA) Mission Foods Drag Racing Series races, PPG is also the paint supplier to Tasca’s automotive collision centers.
“PPG has been a sponsor of Tasca Racing for 18 years,” said Samantha Allen (Troesch), communications partner, Automotive Refinish at PPG. “We have been partners with Tasca Automotive Group, including its nine collision centers, for 30 years.”
This year, the 11,000-horsepower PPG FORD DARK HORSE NITRO MUSTANG Funny Car will appear in four events. The car made its debut at the inaugural FloRacing PRO (Professional Racers Owners Organization) Superstar Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, FL. The PPG logo will appear on the car throughout the 2024 season.
Tasca Racing is led by Bob Tasca III, its team president and driver as well as VP of Tasca Automotive Group, its automotive refinish division.
“PPG has played a key partnership role in the growth of our collision centers over the years,” said Tasca in announcing the continued collaboration. “When I’m running the PPG Nitro Funny Car, PPG always shows up with a great group of fans to support us and our racing program. We could not be happier to have them back for the 2024 season.”
“We are delighted to be sponsoring Tasca Racing again in 2024,” said Bill Shaw, PPG global business director, strategic initiatives, Automotive Refinish, in announcing the partnership. “It’s a new year, they’ve got a beautiful new car, and with a top-three finish last season, we can’t wait to see what Bob and the rest of the Tasca Racing team achieve in the upcoming season.”
Shaw added that in late 2022 the PPG funny car received a new design and painted body along with the necessary equipment to complete onsite touch-ups, and noted that The tasca Automotive Group and their car dealerships, collision centers and service centers currently use the PPG ENVIROBASE® High Performance waterborne paint system.
.
Shaw noted that race cars have their own specific needs, beginning with maximizing speed.
“Drag racing is about speed,” Shaw said. “We worked with the Tasca Racing team to ensure that the paint on the car was light enough while still giving the trusted PPG quality finish.”
