PPG recently completed a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project in Valladolid, Spain, that helped revitalize the Fundación Personas’ El Pino Center for people with disabilities.
The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in Valladolid, where PPG has an automotive coatings facility.
The project brought together more than 70 PPG volunteers and family members and volunteers from Fundación Personas, including parents of children who attend the center. The volunteers spent approximately 725 hours over two Saturdays revitalizing the center’s interior and exterior spaces and conducting special activities for children and adults with disabilities.
PPG provided nearly $23,000 (€20,000) to assist with the project, including 1,100 liters (290 gallons) of DYRUP interior and exterior paint and protective coatings. Fundación Personas will use the remaining donated products and materials to renovate the additional interior and exterior spaces in the El Pino Center as well as its Dos Pinos Center.
Fundación Personas is a non-profit organization that supports and integrates children and adults with disabilities by providing the services and care they need to improve their quality of life and that of their families. The El Pino Center supports 126 people, while the Dos Pinos Center provides services to 70 people. Fundación Personas also assists an additional 1,125 people with disabilities in the Valladolid area.
Using 18 colors, volunteers painted El Pino Center’s canteen, gymnasium, exterior playground, sports field and wooden fences to create a more welcoming, inspiring and colorful environment. Activities also included removing old playground equipment and installing rubber tiles.
“PPG continually seeks to create a positive impact and give back to the communities where it has operations,” said Miguel Angel Juarez, PPG plant manager, automotive coatings, Valladolid and Valencia, Spain. “It was amazing to see everyone’s involvement and dedication, working together as a team to do something special in these people’s lives.”
“It was a pleasure to have worked side-by-side with all my colleagues and the other volunteers, seeing everyone’s commitment to and happiness in such a special project,” said Carina Gomes, PPG HR internal communications, Iberia, and Colorful Communities project leader.
