HSMG LLC received a Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for patent application 16/733,641 related to PROTĒAN, HSMG’s proprietary bio additive and barrier coating platform technology.
The patent, a continuation of the HSMG’s Patent 10,730,959, “Methods of Biobased Derivatization of Cellulosic Surfaces,” provides methods for using PROTĒAN additives and barrier coating formulations to provide water and oil-resistant barriers on a substrate.
“This Notice of Allowance is a significant milestone for HSMG as it substantially strengthens our intellectual property portfolio,” said Samuel Mikail, chairman of HSMG.
“Through this allowance, we can offer sustainable solutions for flexible packaging products like labels and tape used on boxes. We look forward to working with global online retailers,” added Lucy Lee, CEO and vice chairwoman of HSMG.
PROTĒAN is plastic and fluorine-free, is FDA- approved under 21 CFR 176.170 for food contact, maintains BPI Certification for composting under CERT# 10528940 and is BfR XXXVI and XXXVI/2 listed, according to HSMG.
