Axalta Coating Systems is a sponsor of the painting skills competition at the Rush Truck Centers 10th annual Tech Skills Rodeo. Axalta representatives will also serve as judges. The Tech Skills Rodeo is held on December 14-18, 2015 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Rush Truck Centers, operator of the largest network of commercial vehicle dealerships in North America, holds the annual skills contest for its technicians from across the United States. In order to qualify to compete in the rodeo, potential participants must pass rounds of written test assessments. Technicians are pre-tested in 19 competition categories on their trouble-shooting skills to accumulate points in the areas of heavy and medium-duty trucks. In addition, their knowledge of parts and specialty areas, including paint and body repair, are also assessed.
Axalta will also sponsor a technical painting session for the top 10 finalists to display their knowledge and talent in the repair and painting of truck parts. Participants will be challenged to repair two truck parts and then complete the repair with an application of Axalta’s Imron® Elite. This line is also used by Rush Truck Centers dealerships.
Axalta judges will observe each technician’s hands-on performance and evaluate classroom assessments. Bragging rights, belt buckles, cash awards and prizes are all at stake.
“Axalta is proud to support Rush Truck Centers in its pursuit of the continuous improvement and development of their technicians,” said Marcelino Fernandez, Axalta National Fleet Manager. “We’re really looking forward to helping to judge the technical painting sessions and seeing some of the best technicians in the country show off their skills.”
