On June 6, the Beaumont Children’s Museum began an eight-week long summer science camp sponsored by the BASF site in Beaumont, Texas, and the BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals LLC site in Port Arthur, Texas. The camp will run through July 29. Children can enroll for a three-day session or a full week camp in one of two age groups, K to 3rd grade and 4 to 5th grade. Fun and engaging themed-based science activities, such as slimy science experiments, electrical magic, magnetic energy, foamy fountains and blobs in a bottle, allow campers to explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Employees from the two sites will be on hand to share their science knowledge and expertise and lead learning activities on June 15, June 28, July 13 and July 29.
“This summer camp will inspire creative and analytical thinking skills for lifelong learning,” said Becca Amy, Executive Director of the Beaumont Children’s Museum. “We are extremely grateful to BASF Beaumont and BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals for their generous support.”
BASF understands the importance of engaging students in science education at an early age, said Laura Austin, Human Resources Manager for the BASF Beaumont site. “Through this partnership with Beaumont Children’s Museum, we hope to inspire young students to pursue STEM-related careers and eventually join our team.”
The Beaumont Children’s Museum is located at 701 Main Street in Beaumont inside the Beaumont Civic Center. For more information or to enroll in the summer science camp contact the Museum at 409-347-7919 or visit their website at www.beaumontchildrensmuseum.org.
