In Shildon, UK, PPG volunteers have been busy transforming tired looking community landmarks to help re-energize the local area. Projects spanned from independent charitable community schemes to Colorful Communities projects, which took place at a local cricket club and healthcare center.
First used in 1850, the cricket field has remained an important landmark to the local community. However, due to its charitable roots, the local community were unable to provide significant maintenance costs and it has been reliant on donations from the wider public.
With the assistance of two other local charities, 15 PPG volunteers from the local PPG Shildon Aerospace site, dedicated 96 hours to redecorating the space and used 25 liters of JOHNSTONE’S paint, transforming the grounds’ exteriors.

The second Colorful Communities project took place at a local healthcare facility that houses a multidisciplinary team to provide dedicated care for vulnerable people in the community.
Struggling on a small budget, the facility had created a therapy garden that was in need of a make-over. The garden had been left undecorated and wasn’t very inspiring.
The PPG volunteering team gathered with community members to improve the garden and accent the already wonderful work done by the green-fingered locals, who volunteer to keep the garden flourishing all year round. Volunteers focused on decorating the planters and the cinder block raised beds, creating an idyllic and peaceful garden for everyone to enjoy.
