The recent merger of Unimin and Fairmount Santrol resulted into the creation of Covia Holdings Corp., a provider of minerals and materials solutions for the industrial and energy markets. Two businesses, specifically the high purity quartz sands and the sales of materials solutions for coating and polymers, were integrated into a new structure known as Sibelco North America Inc.
The high purity quartz sands business mainly serves electronic manufacturers in Asia. The HPQ activities offer unique capabilities and products like the production of silicon wafers for electronics and solar energy applications.
In the coatings and polymers applications, the sales and marketing functions will be handled by the same people as before. But the new configuration will allow the teams to leverage the global leadership and the specific market and technical expertise of the Sibelco group in this business, including the broadening of the product offer for these applications.
