MFG Chemical is implementing the practice of "reverse parking" at all four of its manufacturing, R & D and headquarters facilities.
“At MFG Chemical we are always interested in new ways of reducing risk and enhancing our safety culture," President & CEO Keith Arnold said. "Parking in reverse is a simple way to reduce the risk of accidents. By reverse parking, you avoid backing out blindly into oncoming traffic or into the path of pedestrians. Also, when employees reverse park as they arrive at work, it is a good start to their safety behavior throughout the workday.”
“The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) shows that 20 percent of all vehicle accidents happen in parking lots," said Joe Welch, MFG Chemical director of EHS&S. "The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 267 people are killed and 15,000 injured each year in the US by drivers who back into them, usually in a driveway or parking lot. Reverse parking will lower the risk of these kinds of accidents.”
Added Barry Lassiter, MFG Chemical VP operations and former safety director at both MFG and DuPont: “Reverse parking is recommended by the American Automobile Association and is practiced by many of our customers, especially in the oil and gas industry. Reverse parking is now part of the safety culture here at MFG Chemical”
