This is a highly fragmented market encompassing industrial wood, protective, general industrial, rail, coil coatings OEM and consumer goods & appliances.

According to a recent report from Markets and Markets, the global industrial coatings market is expected to grow from $98.30 billion in 2017 to $130.97 billion by 2022.

For the purposes of this report industrial coatings are defined as thin films applied on materials to add or enhance their specific properties such as corrosion resistance, wear resistance and conductivity.
Markets and Markets identified a number of developments in the industrial coatings market that have happened over the past few years.

• PPG Industries introduced Durastar Ultra-Cool coatings that enhance the beauty and extend the service life of metal roofing, siding, panels, and other building components.

• Axalta Coating Systems expanded to optimize manufacturing capabilities for its Alesta brand at its powder coatings production facilities in Germany to cater the growing market demand.

• AkzoNobel acquired the industrial coatings business of BASF . This strategy would help strengthen its position in the coil coatings market.

Although the Asia Pacific region has been identified as the area with the most potential for growth, North America and Western Europe are also key areas.

For Axalta Coating Systems, China is the fastest growing region in the world for Industrial coatings.

“But we have also seen very healthy growth rates in our mature markets in Europe and the U.S.,” said Dave Heflin, vice president, Global Industrial Liquid Coatings, Axalta Coating Systems.
In the past year Axalta has launched more than 80 new products across its Industrial businesses.

Hempel said it is focusing its industrial coatings activity in the North American and Western European markets.

“We have the added benefit that we are supported by our Centres of Excellence in Dallas, Texas, USA and Kampen, Netherlands,” said Michael Bredfeldt, head of Industrial Group Product Management, Product and Portfolio, Hempel. “Both sites offer holistic technical services, from product development to field technical expertise...We anticipate continuing to see gains in these regions.” [views] => 0 [published] => 1 [status] => 3 [priority] => 0 [publish_date] => 2019-05-31 15:07:00 [updated_at] => 2019-05-31 08:17:16 [last_updated_author] => 188865 [uploaded_by] => 142069 [user_role_id] => 0 [custom_fields] => [] [custom_fields_old] => [splitcontent] => 1 [content_url] => [related_content_ids] => ["315110","307178","311259","305639","309459","308988","312951","313819","308993","314581","310695","309020","306745","307105","307139"] [is_show_company_name] => [created_at] => 2019-05-29 15:01:00 ) [1] => Content Object ( [className] => Content [contentLinks] => Array ( ) [belongsTo] => [contentIssue] => [id] => 315880 [pageNumber] => [offset] => [totalPages] => [last_query] => [last_sql] => [show_errors] => 1 [databaseServer] => Array ( [key] => master [host] => 172.24.16.232 [user] => rodpub_beta [pass] => MvQQzhse92k58yA [db] => rodpub_beta ) [tableName] => contents [content_type_id] => 2487 [resource_id] => 0 [author_id] => 0 [primary_issue_slug] => [author_name] => {"name":"","title":""} [magazine_id] => 5 [layout_id] => 0 [primary_image] => 189982 [primary_image_old] => [slider_image_id] => 189982 [banner_image] => 0 [title] => Sherwin-Williams Launches Powder Coating, Introduces Series of Product Selection Tools [short_title] => [summary] => [slug] => sherwin-williams-launches-powder-coating-introduces-series-of-product-selection-tools [body] =>
Sherwin-Williams is enhancing its product offering for the architectural building products market with the recent launch of Powdura 4000 Anodite powder coatings and the introduction of a series of Powdura product selection tools.

Manufacturers of windows, doors, stairwells, handrails, wall panels, benches, lighting, and other high-traffic areas have been partnering with the paint and coatings company for decades – utilizing their broad product offering that meets complete AAMA performance standards for coatings.

The new Powdura 4000 Anodite powder coatings are a collection of colors designed to look like anodized metal surfaces while delivering a smooth, ultra-matte, powder-coated finish and are available as part of a 12-color preferred collection. With a range of attractive shades, this system has built-in, super durable TGIC-free technology for long-term resistance against the weather. Designers can create their ideal anodized look with a coating that has been specially engineered to last.

“The use of mica pigments mimics anodized finishes without the potential problems of anodizing,” said Cathy Tarkey, building products market segment manager. “Providing an anodized look in a one-coat application, Powdura 4000 Anodite powder coatings give you the benefit of consistent colors, reduced process times, and improved weatherability over anodized metals.”

Powdura 4000 Anodite coatings can be repaired, applied to more than aluminum, and have greater color consistency between parts. They can also be applied in one coat – with no clearcoat.

Meeting AAMA 2604 specifications, Powdura 4000 Anodite is the latest extension of the Powdura line of high- performance architectural powder coatings, including AAMA 2604 certified Powdura 4000 and AAMA 2605 certified Powdura 5000 products.

“Our goal is to provide multi-generational product platforms based on our years of continued product improvement for both performance and application,” Tarkey said. “Our AAMA Powdura solutions are consistently easy-to-use, meet color tolerances, and hide well. Most formulas can be recoated, if needed, and reclaimed.”

Formulated to provide substantial resistance to abrasion, impacts, scuffing, and scratching, Powdura 4000 coatings deliver a superb finish and long-term durability. This proven technology withstands the harsh elements from UV rays to high heat and humidity.

Durability and weather resistance are non-negotiable when specifying powder coatings on metal building products. That’s why Powdura 5000 coatings are formulated to provide a durable finish with outstanding UV resistance, ensuring your structure is able to withstand harsh conditions for years to come.

“We have proven Powdura 5000 product performance and actual Florida exposure data supporting the AAMA 2605 specifications, providing excellent gloss retention and resistance to chalking and color fade for metal building products,” said Tarkey. “We’re proud to also offer a new addition to our color palette – a pigment platform that delivers jetter, darker blacks to satisfy even your most selective customers.”

To assist architects, specifiers, and applicators in understanding the benefits and unique differences between the Powdura 4000, Powdura 4000 Anodite, and Powdura 5000 product lines for architectural building products, the company recently introduced a series of product selection tools – including product and color guides, fan decks, color cards, and stock product color panel samples.

“We are fostering our legacy in the Building Products market. These unique product selection tools and innovative products help to better serve our customers by providing guidance and support,” said Tarkey.
Colors in the Sherwin-Williams Powdura portfolio of powder and liquid coatings are based on market buying behavior and market trend research, as part of their new color capability programs.

Axalta signed an agreement to develop a new, state-of-the-art facility in the Netherlands for its Dutch refinish business.

Once construction is completed, Axalta’s global refinish brands in the Netherlands – Cromax, Spies Hecker, Standox, and Syrox – will relocate to the new facility on Business Park Medel, both in Tiel.

The facility will also house Metalak BV.

“There has been a period of growth and change following our acquisition of Metalak in 2015," said Adrien Schrobiltgen, Axalta’s VP for Refinish Systems in Europe, Middle East and Africa."We have outgrown our current location’s ability to support us in the way in which we need it.”

Axalta’s plot in Business Park Medel is 12,000m2 and will house, once completed, a 7,250m2 facility comprised of office space over three floors, a warehouse, and a new Axalta Training Centre as well as separate mixing room, which is part of Axalta’s direct business point of distribution, servicing both high-volume customers as well as local color development.

“We are always looking to improve our level of support to our customers, so today, with a view to the future, we commit to building a state-of-the-art facility," said Bas van de Ven, Axalta’s managing director for Refinish in the Netherlands "The new training center will be able to meet the future needs of the market, while the new offices and sophisticated automated warehouse will allow us to take our daily operations to the next level and to attract and to retain outstanding talent."

Ground is due to be broken on the site in October 2019, with an anticipated completion date by summer 2020. The facility will be operational and ready to move into by September 2020.

Axalta Coating Systems Ltd. announced that its Board of Directors initiated a comprehensive review of strategic alternatives to maximize shareholder value.

The Board formed a Strategic Review Committee, which will be chaired by the Independent Presiding Director of Axalta's Board, Mark Garrett, and will also include Axalta CEO Robert Bryant and Axalta Independent Director Samuel Smolik.

"Axalta's Board is committed to maximizing value for all shareholders and has initiated a comprehensive review of strategic alternatives, including a potential sale of the company, changes in capital allocation, and ongoing execution of our strategic plan," said Garrett. "Axalta's management team and Board have a strong track record of pursuing M&A opportunities, along with other initiatives and alternatives, to maximize shareholder value."

"Axalta continues to execute on its long-term strategy, delivering significant cost savings to bolster our industry-leading margins, re-deploying free cash flow to drive accretive organic and inorganic growth initiatives, and returning more than $380 million to shareholders over the last two years," added Bryant. "Given Axalta's progress in recent years and its leading position as a global coatings company – with 90 percent of 2018 sales derived from end markets where we have either the No. 1 or No. 2 global position – we believe that now is the right time to review a full range of options in an effort to maximize value for all shareholders."

No assurances can be given regarding the outcome or timing of the review process. Axalta does not intend to make any further public comment regarding the review until it has been completed or the company determines that disclosure is required or beneficial.
