Job Description:
Position Principle Responsibilities
The incumbent must be able to organize, direct and lead the quality control, factory production and plant technical efforts to ensure quality product are optimally manufactured to meet technical and customer requirements. Incumbent is also responsible for ensuring that the technology for new and revised formulas are successfully transferred to the manufacturing processes, to ensure market leadership position. All manufacturing problems related to materials and formulas are effectively resolved and implemented. Directly impact Anvil manufacturing productivity and cost containment objectives.
Position responsibilities include:
Develop and own execution of strategic plan that supports the growth strategy of the business including resources (people equipment, costs) needed to support current business (testing, spec writing etc.) as well as product innovation and new product/market development.
Conduct competitive product benchmarking analyses to test paint performance properties and make independent recommendations for improvement of products.
Maintain and update product specifications and performance properties for research purposes.
Direct raw material evaluation and purchasing.
Formulation of new products and reviewing existing formulas for RMC improvement
Formulation development to pilot batches of new product and directing their successful implementation at the production facility.
Conduct quality control checks of new scale-up batches or initial batches of new products and troubleshoot problems as needed.
Train and monitor the work of Technicians, Jr. Chemists and temporary personnel in carrying out their daily duties.
Interpret and respond to requests for data and information either orally or in writing and answer related questions.
Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the relationship between chemical composition raw materials and performance of the coating product.
Consider, review and analyze proposals submitted from sales, marketing, investors or stakeholders to determine benefits derived and/or possible applications, to determine expenditures vs. return. Make recommendations to Business Unit Leader and President.
Lead and assist Environmental Health and Safety on different aspects of compliance planning record keeping and reporting in accordance with environmental federal and state directives.

Education:
Bachelor degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering from a four-year college or university or equivalent education and experience.
Work Experience:
Minimum of 6 years industrial chemistry experience within the coatings industry along with at least 5 years formulating experience.
