Produced by Iron Oxide Recovery, who pioneered the recovery of these solids at passive mine water treatment systems in Pennsylvania, EnvironOxide solids are 70-95% pure with strong pigment characteristics, high surface area and low particle size.
Charles E. Hoover, EVP of coatings and president – Hoover Color, A Division of Cathay Industries, noted that EnvironOxide pigments have been a success in North America, and are now being brought to Europe.
“We are introducing EnvironOxide to Europe,” Hoover said. “It is a technology that we have developed and refined over the years. People are focused on solvents and resins for sustainability, but when it comes to colorants, they use traditional pigments. We have developed a sustainable way to produce EnvironOxide.”
Hoover Color, A Division of Cathay Industries’ family of earth tone EnvironOxide pigments that can be used for a wide range of applications, including wood ad metal coatings. The company notes that EnvironOxide pigments are recognized as a green construction product and have been used in many LEED construction projects. The latest refinement is metal coatings using EnvironOxide.
We are now getting the transparency we needed for coating metal,” Hoover said.
