To create ideas and enhance collaboration for top performance and success, Seagrave Coatings Corporation, a manufacturer of coatings for aerospace, industrial and furniture products, has created ThinkPaint, a new heavy-duty industrial dry-erase paint product. According to the company, ThinkPaint’s innovative technology can turn any surface into a whiteboard and is the only dry-erase paint that can provide customizable colors across the color spectrum.
Seagrave Coatings Corporation became aware of dry-erase paint products when their current customers’ expectations for superior dry-erase paint products failed. The current products in the market are consumer-oriented and do not have the durability that their high-tech customers required. Thus, Seagrave Coatings invented ThinkPaint. ThinkPaint is customizable for difficult-to-coat surfaces and can be applied on any exterior surface exposed to direct sunlight with zero ghosting characteristics in order to meet customer demands and deliver market-competitive prices. Plus, the self-sourced dry-erase paint is environmentally friendly.
“Our discovery is perfectly suited for a technology-driven, fast-paced marketplace where ideas are formulated, shared and improved through collaboration,” said H. Peter Tepperman, CEO of the Seagrave Coatings Corporation. “We have perfected the dry-erase paint with a hardness reading of more than 50, which is twice the hardness of the leading competitor. We have also built highly trusted relationships with facility managers nationwide, and we are enormously pleased that the product has been so well received early on.”
ThinkPaint’s dry-erase paint product is now equal in durability to the medium-price whiteboards that dominate the market and is a superior alternative to those products. ThinkPaint’s product has the added advantage of being able to turn an entire surface of any size into a whiteboard and can be placed on curved or non-flat surfaces like filing cabinets and desks.
“The key property of ThinkPaint is its ability to maintain its dry erasibility,” said Tepperman. “Other paints would have ghosting (residual image remains on the board). We figured out the porosity of the surface was a factor. We came up with a product that has built in elasticity, but a little over twice the hardness of glass. It makes a good dry-erase paint. It will cure and be usable within 48 hours."
ThinkPaint has been certified by Green Wise and by the Coatings Research Group in Cleveland, Ohio. “The product meets or exceeds VOC requirements,” said Tepperman.”We can also make a version of ThinkPaint that is zero VOC.”
ThinkPaint is currently available by direct sales to end-users and facility managers. ThinkPaint is roller applied. It is 88 percent solids and has low odor. It is recommend the surface be sealed or primed and should be sanded smooth. It can be used with good quality dry erase markets and can be wiped down with isopropyl alcohol.
