CHINACOAT continues to be the leading show in the paint and coatings industry, and China remains a major market for paint, coatings and ink manufacturers and suppliers despite trade tensions and slowing economic growth.

“Though the worsening global trade tensions and decelerating economic growth pose challenges to the industry, CHINACOAT2019 set a new record in its scale with over 97,000 square meters of gross exhibition space – a rise of 14 percent and 25 percent against 2017 and 2018 editions respectively,” said Raymond Ho, director, Sinostar-ITE International. “Over 1,260 exhibitors from 32 countries/regions have confirmed to participate this year. It is also worth mentioning that the total net exhibition area of the ‘UV/EB Technology & Products’ exhibit zone continues to expand noticeably – a rise of 21 percent against the 2018 Guangzhou show. Visitor numbers for CHINACOAT2019 are expected to remain stable, in light of the latest challenging situations.”

CHINACOAT will focus on a variety of topics including high-growth markets and sustainability and environmental awareness.

“The fast-growing downstream markets, such as construction and rail transit, continue to generate high demand for architectural, wood and industrial coatings,” Mr. Ho noted. “At the same time, increasing awareness of environmental protection and health concerns are driving the surge in eco-friendly products. There is a growing popularity of multi-functional products, which can provide an array of additional performance benefits, such as superhydrophobicity, self-healing anti-corrosion, self-healing scratch repair, high conductivity, etc. Key areas to be addressed at CHINACOAT2019 include coating products and solutions of eco-friendliness, high performance and multi-functionality.”

As China continues its push for more environmentally responsible products. UV and waterborne technologies remain the top options.

According to Mr. Ho, for the past few years, wood and furniture makers have largely adopted UV spray painting equipment to substitute for manual paint to improve production efficiency and reduce delivery time, therefore boosting demand for UV coating products.

“In addition, UV coatings that lie within the category of eco-friendly products became a major selection of coating solutions,” added Mr. Ho. “Waterborne system continues to outperform other eco-friendly coatings due to the Chinese Government's environmental policies and current advancement of waterborne technologies. Before 2015, China’s waterborne coating products accounted for less than 20 percent of the total coatings output. But in 2018, they occupied over 90 percent in architectural coatings and 25 percent in anti-corrosion coatings. These figures match with the fast expansion of CHINACOAT exhibitors' waterborne product categories.”
