Color Makes a Comeback
After years of whites, grays and neutrals, color is finally making its way back into our homes. This year’s trends are bringing drama into interiors as paint and color are used as eclectic and powerful tools which leave the home feeling fresh and updated.

According to 58% of experts, Neutrals with pops of bold colors will be the most popular interior color palette in 2023. Although neutral shades have been in the spotlight for some time now, people are starting to experiment with bolder hues to accentuate certain features of their homes.

Bolder Color Choices: Terracotta Takes First Place

This new found love for richer tones lines up with what 50% of interior designers believe will be the most popular color for 2023: Terracotta. This shade adds both warmth and drama to a space while sticking to earthy tones, which took second place as the most popular palette this year.

Reaching the top five most popular colors of 2023 is Indigo. This saturated color allows homeowners to make a statement and create a nature-inspired look in any room. These bold colors may take up space in the home, but they can be easily combined with other softer and more neutral palettes which are considered to be trending right now too.

Wallpaper Is Here to Stay

Wallpaper has been trending for a few years now, and this trend is showing no signs of slowing down. With 96% of experts saying that wallpaper will continue to trend, 63% of them also claim that it will now be more popular than ever.

Over 50% of experts believe that botanical patterned wallpapers will be the most popular in 2023. This design allows for a wide variety of prints, whether they be subtle and minimalistic or big and bold. This nature-inspired trend also ties in well with nature themed home designs that continue to grow popular this year.

For those hesitating about covering their walls or are unsure of where to incorporate this trend, Fixr.com recommends starting with a smaller space. In fact, 84% of experts said that the powder room will be the most popular place for wallpaper this year, as it’s less of a commitment and allows people to showcase their personal style to their guests.

Committing to Color

Not only is 2023 bringing bolder colors into homes, but people are now willing to commit to painting an entire room. 57% of experts now recommend that a new color should be applied to the entire room, instead of just incorporating it into furniture or accent walls. This has created a big shift in the way color is being used in interior spaces, as last year’s report revealed that calming neutrals were dominating home interiors in 2022. But this year shows that color is now starting to take the spotlight in home design.

Painting an entire room can be a rather dramatic statement, so it needs to be done right. Fixr.com recommends hiring a professional to incorporate this particular trend into the home, with costs varying depending on the size of the space. Most interior painting costs $3 to $4 a sq.ft., and this small investment will be worth the joy the room brings with this bold trend.

For those that want to sell their home in 2023, 82% of experts recommend warm neutrals for interior spaces. This color palette was also chosen in 2022, and is likely to continue to trend for years to come as it represents a blank canvas for potential buyers.

And although bolder colors are trending this year, only 2% of experts say you should incorporate these shades into your home if you plan on selling in the near future.
