Technical Expertise:
- The Service Technician must be available for technical advice to our customers, prospects and TCI personnel offering continuous support of questions pertaining to powder and the powder coating process.
- Must have a very clear understanding of all aspects of powder coatings and continue to seek education and experiences that expand that knowledge.
- Must be an expert in the field of applications of powder coatings and be knowledgeable regarding electrocoat, all forms of surface preparation, material handling as well as all steps in the process of finishing products.
- Must be dedicated to understanding how to collect data needed to illustrate total applied cost, taking in consideration all aspects of the powder coating process.
- Must understand root cause and be able to utilize the FMEA process for defect analysis.
- All visits to major customers will require a follow-up report.
- The person in this position must be an expert in written reports and have the ability to illustrate in a compelling way the data collected to prove findings.
- Our fieldwork is an essential and important part of illustrating our total value to the customer and our reports are record of this value.
- His/her expertise should include but not be limited to report writing for: field audits, AAMA certification, defect analysis, process control, quality control as well as optimizing a powder operation.
- Training is regular part of the job of Service Technician. He or she must always be looking for ways to educate our customers and offer his/her expertise whenever possible and practical.
- Speaking can be a part of the position and when called on the Service Technician must be available and able to speak on subjects related to powder coatings, representing TCI as a leader in the powder coating field.
- Testing and evaluation of powder coatings will be a necessity for this position. The person in this position must be able to perform field and laboratory tests as outlined by various associations such as PCI, ASTM, AAMA and others. .
- Every customer will have some form of oven. In most cases convection ovens will be used, however, Infrared is common from a variety of manufactures and various wave lengths. This position must be familiar with all oven types and understand how to measure part temperature and cure utilizing each oven technology.
- The architectural market is a very important market for TCI and we will on occasion be required to certify an applicator. This position will be responsible for completing these audits.
- Work as a member of the TCI Sales and Marketing team. Be able to work in a team environment with respect for each member of the team.
- In many cases this position will be provided a company vehicle and must maintain a good driving record and have a current driver’s license.
- This position will be exposed to many facilities with a variety of safety requirements and/or procedures and must comply with this specific requirements must always practice safe work habits.
- This position will require overnight travel and the person in the position must be willing to travel as needed for the job.
- Ability to manage multiple projects is a must.
- Organizational skills essential
- Communications skills both oral and written will be of significant importance.
- Experience and proficient use of all Microsoft Office programs with the ability to develop professional presentations.
- Expert knowledge of powder coatings is a must
- Expert knowledge of pretreatment, coating application equipment, material handling and all aspects of the coating process is a must.
- The ability to use tools and equipment needed to measure and monitor a powder coating operation.

- The ability to work with people in a team, group or one on one.
Education and/or Experience:
- Applicant must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in coatings with a proven track record in powder coatings.
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
